Stay Connected with Shizzow

Here are a few tips, tricks and links to help you stay connected with Shizzow:

SMS shouts and notifications

You can shout using SMS from your mobile phone using the instructions on our Using SMS page. You'll need to register your device to use SMS and add a few favorites with nicknames before you begin shouting via SMS.

IM Notifications

You can get shout notifications via IM from any XMPP provider with the exception of Google / GTalk. Jabber.org is a good choice. Simply add your IM account contact information and update your notification preferences. We are working with Google to resolve the issue with GTalk.

Mobile web browser

We have an alpha version of the Shizzow mobile site for web enabled phones at http://m.shizzow.com.

Geode for automatic location determination

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, have Geode installed and have your wi-fi device enabled, the Shizzow dashboard will use Geode to try to auto-determine where you are at. If Geode recognizes your wi-fi router and Shizzow finds Places in the immediate vicinity of that router, you will see a brown location box appear right above "Find a Place to Shout from". Now click Shout, and you'll be there both physically and virtually!

Applications

Here is a list of third party applications. Most of them are built using the Shizzow API.

Shizzow in Your OSX Menu Bar

Author: @reid

This was actually the first Shizzow application prior to the release of our API using some CSS / Javascript wizardry to create a Fluid application, and it has now been packaged up for the rest of us to use. Keep in mind that this is a Mac-only application.

Shizzeeps (Alpha)

Author: @crunchysue

Shizzeeps.com shows you which shizzow users (known as shizzeeps) are congregating where at the moment. It also allows you to see their shout messages, and even send your own ephemeral message to the group at a particular place. Shizzeeps also offers a Twitter service: follow @shizzeeps to get updates every 15 minutes.

Shizzup (Alpha)

Author: @wajiii

An iPhone client with list and map views of people and places, detection of nearby places to shout from, ability to auto-shout, and more. You currently need to build the Shizzup client from the source code to use it.

f'shizzow (Alpha)

Author: @petrichor

A simple Shizzow application for Android to quickly find out where your friends are, or find out who's nearby and listen to them. See their locations on a map, or their recent shout history. Browse nearby places, search for places by name and tag, add to your favorites, and shout from them. Automatically detect your location using GPS/wifi, or manually set it on a map for finer control.

Baken (Alpha)

Author: @mattg

Baken is an Android (and iPhone, eventually) app that automatically finds nearby locations from Shizzow's database. It also provides much of the functionality found on m.shizzow.com. Matt also has plans to take the app in new directions in the near future.
